Healthy North Dakota Initiative
In 2002, Governor John Hoeven, and approximately 130 people from more than 75 organizations from across the state, met to set statewide health and wellness priorities. The Healthy North Dakota Initiative was the result. With a lofty goal to improve the health of every citizen by inspiring people to choose healthy behaviors, this group defines strategies for dealing with many issues facing North Dakotans:
- Tobacco use
- Substance abuse/mental health
- Healthy weight – nutrition
- Healthy weight – physical activity
- Health disparities
- Worksite wellness
- Community engagement
- Third-party payers/insurance
